Goal Setting

Assalamualaikum friends...

Goal Setting is the first topic in Real Leadership Workshop Training. Here I will share a little on how to set our goal (which I learnt from the workshop) and Locke's Goal Setting Theory from a website.

There are few steps and aspects which can direct us to achieve our goal:

1) Focus on the outcome that you are expecting

Decide the aspect of life you really want to improve and set the specific outcome that you are looking for.

I choose to improve my Academic Performance, so my specific outcome is to graduate with a CGPA of 3.7 and above. I also want to work on my Religious Development, and my specific outcome for this aspect of life is to read Quran everyday, at least 2 pages with its meaning.

2) Aligning with your Values and Principles

Answer this question: Are the goals something you truly want to achieve? If no, then it might not be a good goal.

YES!! I truly want to achieve it! =D So, I can proceed with the next step...

3) Identify the Obstacles and the Challenges

In this part you have to decide if you could start and maintain your goal, and who are your role models.

So far I got a CGPA of 3.69, so in syaa Allah, I will try my best to get more than 3.7 this semester and maintain it. For the second aspect, I have started and alhamdulillah, maintaining it...
And my role models are my own uncle and my elder brother... :-)

4) Goal Sizing

If your goal is too big, break it into a smaller goals, else if it is too small, then make it bigger.

For the academic performance, yes I have divided it into smaller tasks. Goal sizing of religious development is just fine.

5) Resources

List down the resources you already have and you need to get to achieve your goal.

I already have...
my books and notes, PTPTN loan, friends and lecturers, Quran with meaning, and plenty of time

I need...
well, I hope my brother could add "teach my sissy" in his planner...

When setting your goal... make sure write it in a positive sentence and follow SMART...

What is SMART?

Specific
Know what you want to achieve

Measureable
You will know that you HAVE to achieve it

Action-Oriented
You could set your steps to achieve it

Realistic
   So you could achieve it

Time-Bound
   Has deadline

Locke's Goal Setting Theory

This theory uses SMART as its basic and introduces 5 principles which helps us to set a better and realistic goals.

The 5 principles are:

Clarity
Set specific goals which is measurable and with time limit

Challenge
Set difficult goals but make sure it is achievable

Commitment
Work consistently to achieve your goal

Feedback
Check your progress regularly to make sure you are right on track

Task Complexity
Make sure the goals are neither too big nor too small

Language

Assalamualaikum friends...

Today I am going to talk about....

Language - Bahasa

Most of our reaction towards this topic might be:

"Just Language??" o.O       "Ceh! bahasa jer pun...."

Remember, language can be as sweet as Honey or as sharp as Knife...It depends on how we use it...

Choice of words we use indirectly affects our life.

Here's an example to help you think...:

You are attending a job interview... Of course you would have prepared yourself by gaining knowledge on the best way to communicate so that you will be selected in that interview... So what will happen if you use improper language (i.e. vulger, violent, racist, sexist, etc) with your colleagues and your boss after posting that job... Do you think you will last any longer in that job that you prepared so much for its interview? What will be the level of respect on you by others, is it still as good as how it was during the interview...? Will your colleagues treat you the same way then? Will you get promoted to a better posting?

Renung-renungkanlah...........................

That is just an example of a situation... Remember to communicate appropriately with everyone, because our language plays a major role in our life... ;-)

Motivational Book: How To do Everything and be Happy by Peter Jones

Assalamualaikum and Hi friends!

In this post, I am going to share summary of a content from a motivational book.

Book Title: How to do Everything and be Happy
Author: Peter Jones

Topic: Boxing Day

What is Boxing Day? Traditionally, Boxing Day is celebrated by Christians, its a public holiday celebrated on the first day after Christmas Day.

The concept of (the real) Boxing Day is used to plan our own boxing day. The main idea of boxing day is to spend the whole day doing things that you LIKE!

There are 3 simple rules in setting a boxing day:

1) Plan when is the boxing day. So open up your planner now and start planning when you want your boxing day to be! Remember, boxing day must be there in every month of your planner.

2) DO NOT pre-plan your boxing day. Planning to watch movie and book a ticket earlier? NO! That is not allowed too! Plan your boxing day on that day itself.

3) Emergency? Postpone it. '22nd Sept is my boxing day and I had to meet my client.' If this situation ever happen to you, make sure you don't cancel your boxing day. Reschedule the boxing day to another day.

So that's the main idea of Boxing Day discussed in How to do Everything and be Happy. Want to know more? Then go get this book ASAP! I will be back to share about more books next time...
